Do you remember the DIY abstract beach artwork that I created? Well my canvas frame was a cheap one and now it will not lay flat. So I needed to create a frame to make the artwork straight again. I was trying to decide the best way to do this when I saw a post over at Remodelaholic about creating a simple frame.
I decided that would be perfect because it was simple and tutorial made it look easy. I did use 1″x2″ boards instead because I already had some in my garage. I also used my nail gun to help the boards stay together better.
After some experimenting, I decided to stain the frame with half golden pecan and half special walnut. I took a damp cloth and wiped the whole frame then applied the stain. I did not let the stain sit for very long on the wood because I did not want the frame very dark.
Next I applied one coat of poly after that dried I added my picture to the frame. I found that I did have to nail my picture to the frame because remember it was not straight.
And here is my finished frame.
What do you think? The project was simple and only cost me $3 because I already the wood and picture.
Check out how I created my full length mirror.
Anyone else want to DIY a picture frame? Because this would look good for a big family photo or any other picture…
