Continuing on with our costumes for this year, next costume from our Jake & the Neverland Pirate crew is Izzy…
And if you missed last weeks costume of Jake here you go.
Supplies Needed for Izzy Costume:
Pink Fabric (I used a little less than a yard but amount could be different depending on the size)
Purple Pants (I bought them at Target)
1 sheet yellow felt
1 yard cording
1/4 yard Red Felt for the shoe covers
And then of course pins, needles, scissors, ruler & thread
First step to making the costume was the shirt. There are many many shirt tutorial out there and because I do not feel qualified to show you, here are a couple examples:
Keyhole Tee Shirt Tutorial by Craftiness Is Not Optional (This link has a great tutorial on how create your own pattern)
The only things I did different was make the front of the tee into a v-neck, like below. And made the sleeve length longer to give it a puffer top.
Next I sewed the shoulder pieces together.
Then I hemmed the bottom of the sleeves and baste stitched the curved of the sleeve.
Next I pinned the sleeve into place, pulling the basting stitch to make the sleeve fit. Then I sewed the sleeves into place using a 1/2″ seam.
Next I cut a 2″ strip of fabric and folded it in half. Then I made it fit the neck of the shirt, like picture below by pinning into place and creating a point. If you notice I am sewing this part onto the right side of the fabric.
Then I sewed the two pieces together using a 1/4″ seam.
Next I pressed the fabric to the inside of the shirt and pinning into place.
Then I again sewed a 1/4″ seam.
Next I sewed the sides of the tee together and then hemmed the bottom of the shirt, just like the sleeves.
Then looping from front to back and pulling through the front again.
Pull the thread tight and again looping, tying off in the inside of the shirt.
This will create a little pucker or loop in the fabric.
Next was making the head band/bandanna. To do this, I took a square piece of fabric and folding it into a triangle. I sewed the edged together, leaving a 2″ gap. Then I turned the fabric right side out and top stitched the edges.
For the pixie dust bag, I took a sheet of felt and cut it into a square. Then I baste stitched a circle around the square, like so…
Then I pulled the strings from the baste stitch, like picture below. I then continued by adding rice to the bag and wrapping the cording around the top. Then I removed the baste stitch from the bag.
Now it was time to make the boot covers or booties. Here are the pieces I cut out for them. And here is the tutorial on how to make shoe covers from the Jake costume. With these boots I made the top piece a little bigger but I wish I would have made it smaller like the Jake costume boot covers.
And here is our little Izzy…
She did not want to look at the camera for me and wanted to play with her pixie dust bag.
And that’s our Izzy costume from Jake and the Neverland Pirates. How is your Halloween costumes coming along? Are you still trying to decide what to be? Or have you had it figured out for months?
