I decided to take some time off right before I had the new little one and get my king size quilt done. I have been looking at doing a quilt for my bed for over 2 years, I know a long time. But we could not decide on the fabric and the pattern. But then I saw this lovely pattern Firework by Thimble Blossom. I love all of her patterns and fabric but this was our favorite.
After we finally decided on the pattern, we went shopping for fabric. I love taking my husband fabric shopping (I really do) because he loves fabric and we always get a lot of fabric. We decided on 5 different prints, most were from the line Happy-Go-Lucky by Thimble Blossom.
Now this is a King size quilt and I needed 49 Blocks (making it about 114″ x 114″). Because I was making that many blocks, I decided to do a No-Waste Flying Geese Tutorial and No-Waste Long Half Triangle Tutorial, to make things easier. Just look at the picture below, that is my Flying Geese, #600 to be exact.
UPDATE: Here is a great tutorial on a No-Waste Corner Piece.
This quilt has taken me 2 months to get pieced together. A lot of that time was holding a cute little baby… But last week I finally finished all my blocks!!!
It took awhile trying to decide where to place all the blocks, almost 2 hours. By the end of the week, I got all the blocks sewn together and I am so excited to finally have the quilt top finished. I had to test it out on my bed.
The hubby wanted a bright quilt and he is getting a bright quilt. I am really happy with the way it turned out. BUT now I have to quilt it and I am a little worried about that because the size. I plan on using white fabric for the back and the binding of the quilt. This way I can have a white quilt also.
Anyone else doing some quilting? Or have you quilted a king size quilt and have some tips?
