Our stairs going to the outside and to the basement were really old and had a smell to them. We decided to rip out the old carpet and see what we have to work with. Maybe we could refinish the stairs. So we put the kids down for a nap and got to work.
You can see how dirty the stairs was under the carpet.
Whoever put the carpet in did not want it to come up. There were so many nails and staples.
We cut the carpet to start it then pulled. We did the same thing with the pad. Then the fun part removing all the nails and staples. I got the fun job of removing the tack strip with hammer and screwdriver.
He is so nice to clean up for me!
The project took us about 2 hours to finish. Looks better and smells better!
Next, we have to refinish the wood.
You can find how to remove varnish- Part 2 here.
