When we moved into our home, both the back and front doors had storm doors, sometimes they are called screen doors, but they were not in the best shape. If you remember, at first we completely removed the back storm door only to discover that we really needed a storm door. So we added a new door and we have loved the new storm door so much that we wanted to add one to our front door. Here is the house with the old screen door.

The door was not bad but it had a hard time closing and staying closed. For Christmas, we were given a gift card for a new screen door and now we are finally installing it… The doors we decided to use (because we used the same door in the back) is the Andersen 3000 Fullview Easy Install Storm Door. The other style we were debating on was the Anderson 3000 Self-Storing Door, this door is cool because the screen in stored inside the door itself.
Before we could install the new door, we needed to remove the old storm door and repaint the door jambs/trim. The old paint was chipping away in some areas and it was also a cream color, not going to work for our white door. So I started by removing the old door which was not that bad, Eric just had to move the door because it was heavy… I did have to vacuum the area because it was a little dirty under that old door.
Oh and I decided it was time to remove the Christmas wreath because it is June…
Then I removed all the old and flaking paint/caulk. Next I filled in all the screw holes with an exterior wood puddy and sanded the whole area. After I cleaned the door jamb to remove the dirt. Now I could caulk around the seams, I also filled in some spots that had some water damage. Then out came the exterior primer and paint (I already had this on hand from the other door). This whole process took us about two weeks because it would not stop raining but we can not complain because we need the rain and I was loving the cooler weather… Here is our house after removing the old door and repainting.
Finally one evening we installed the new storm door. Just so you know, the door instructions say it will take 45 minutes to install but we have yet to find that, and we have installed this door 2 times. I would plan on about an hour and a half.

What do you think? I like how open the door feels now. But now I think we need to add a new wreath, planter box and maybe finally add some new shutters… Anyone else needing a new storm door?
