Do you remember our post about our shoe problem? Well this is one step closer to solving some of our problems that we have with our back entry, it still does not solve the shoe problem but I have an idea on how I am going to solve that so stay tuned… The way we are improving our back entryway is by adding coat hooks! The only place we have to hang coats is in the living room and guess what, we never use the front door to enter our home. So we wanted something by our back door and here is our solution.

Adding coat hooks to back entry

Here is the space before we added the coat hooks. My daughter had no place to put her backpack but the access door did a great job…

Back entry before

To complete this project, I used 1″x4″ boards and cut them to size. Then I primed and painted the boards. I then attached the hooks (I bought the hooks at Hobby Lobby). Next was finding a stud and that was a little hard with our really thick walls. And now we have coat hooks!

After adding coat hooks

If you look closely you will notice that here are gaps around the wood because I did not caulk around the wood. Why? Well we plan on replacing the plumbing and electric in the house this next year and to do this we will most likely have to cut into this wall. So after we replace that stuff I will then caulk around the wood and paint the wall, I can not wait!!! But until then we have a gap.

Updated Back entry

Here is our new view from the bottom of the stairs. Do you love the holes in the wall, not finished drywall, and shoes??? Like I said we are waiting to fix most of these until after we replace the plumbing and electrical.

Anyone else need to improve their entryway?

  1. Coat hooks are quite handy at this sort of place which also help in keeping the living room clean from coats. As for the shoes I would say you can convert one stair into a drawer which will definitely solve your shoe problems.

    1. Thanks Joyce! I like the idea about converting the stair into a drawer.
