House TO-DO List

Can you believe we are already in the month of August? I still can not believe it. It’s crazy how fast time fly’s. And because we have reached our half-year mark of living in this house. It’s time for another house to-do list to see exactly where we are with the house projects. Things on the list may change over time but for now its our list of things to do.

Let’s start with that list: 

– The Front/Side Yard (64% Complete) –

To Do:

• Trim Trees (working on this)
• Remove old bushes
• Re-stain and waterproof shutter
• Remove the pine tree that is decaying (we have change our mind again and plan on replacing the tree)
• Aerate, re-seed and power rake the yard
• Make flower beds look wonderful by adding mulch and more plants
• Install a Drip System
• Repair old cracked concrete stairs gaps and fixing the chipped concrete
• Plant a new tree were pine tree was
• Mulch around current trees
• Re-paint light pole , we removed it, here.
• Redo Mailbox
• Fix Sprinklers

– The Porch (40% Complete) –

To Do:

• Redo the porch rails & roof (next year project!)
• Paint the front door
• Add new house numbers (working on this)
• Add new screen door
• Add a planter box (working on this also!)

– The Garage (40% Complete) –

To Do:

• Add a threshold (to stop water from coming into the garage)
• Add weather-stripping to garage door
• Repaint door into garage and caulk around
• Add gutter to north side of garage
• Add new siding

– The Back Yard (71% Complete) –

– The Living Room (77% Complete) –

To Do:

• Paint the walls, ceiling and trim
• Update vents and light covers
• Add new windows and frame in the windows (jambs, trim, & painting)
• Update door knobs and hinges
• Paint and add shelving to closet
• Add stump tables
• Fix computer desk by making shelves look built-in 
• Build a media console
• Add some picture frames
• Make a slipcover for the couch
• Add new chairs here & here
• Add crown molding (Phase 2)
• Re-stain doors (Phase 2)

– The Kitchen (61% Complete) –

To Do:

• Build cabinet above stove and add microwave (will give us more counter space)
• Add new windows and frame in the windows 
• DIY kitchen table and chairs
• Paint the walls, ceiling and trim
• Update the old kitchen lights (here and starting on other ones soon)
• Remove door to the stairs and fix trim
• Add dishwasher
• Paint the cabinets
• Add new hardware
• Add backsplash
• Replace old blinds with new ones
• Replace sink and plumbing
• Add new faucet
• New countertops (Phase 2)
• Remove wall to living room (Phase 2)
• Install more cabinets on East wall (Phase 2)
• Replace flooring (Phase 2)
• New fringe and stove

– The Bathroom (85% Complete) –

To Do:

• Remove wallpaper
• Repaint trim 
• Remove paint from old cabinet hinges
• Update door knob & hinges
• Paint walls and ceiling
• new mirror
• Re-caulk everything
• Upgrade lighting above sink and ceiling
• Add new ceiling fan
• Add shelving
• Re-grout tile and one day replace (Phase 2: Tiles are cracked and move when you walk on them.)
• Replace toilet
• Add hooks and remove towel bar 

-Upstairs Hallway (83% Complete) –

To Do:

• Paint walls and ceiling
• Repaint all of the trim and cabinet doors
• Remove paint from hinges and add new hardware
• Update light
• Add artwork

– The Master Bedroom (72% Complete) –

To Do:

• Paint walls, ceiling and trim
• Makeover closet
• Add new windows and frame in the windows
• Add blinds to windows
• Add headboard to bed
• Make a new quilt for bed
• Add artwork, mirror, and maybe curtains
• Update door knobs and door hardware
• Re-stain doors (Phase 2)
• Add crown molding (Phase 2)

– Kid’s Room (55% Complete) –

To Do:

• Paint walls, ceiling and trim
• Add new windows and frame in the windows
• Add blinds and maybe some curtains
• Redo closet
• Re-stain doors
• Update door knobs and hardware
• Add crown molding
• Add artwork/picture frames

– The Stairs (55% Complete) –

To Do:

• Remove the old carpet from the wood stairs
• Re-finish stairs 
• Paint the walls and ceiling
• Paint trim and access door
• Paint backdoor
• Add coat hooks
• New light fixture
• Fix holes in wall
• Build shelving above stairs ???

– Basement Play/Living Room (28% Complete) –

To Do: The plans in this room have changed

• Add new windows (next years project)
• Remove all old framing
• Move laundry to corner
• Update breaker box
• Put cabinets above washer and dryer
• Insulate room
• Create a closet under stairs
• Move water softener
• Install flooring or paint cement
• Remove wall paneling
• Install drywall
• Update sink
• Paint walls, ceiling, and trim
• Add barn door
• Add a ceiling light fixture

– Basement Bedroom (23% Complete) –

To Do: Complete remodel

• Make window to code and add new window
• Paint cinder block
• Insulate room
• Add a closet
• Remove old carpeting and install new
• Remove wall paneling and ceiling paneling
• Install drywall
• Add trim and crown molding
• Paint walls, ceiling, and trim
• Paint door and update hardware
• Add blinds or curtains
• Add a ceiling light fixture

– The Basement Craft Room (16% Complete) –

To Do: Complete remodel

• Make window to code and add new window
• Insulate room
• Paint cinder block
• Remove brick box behind door
• Remove old carpeting and install new
• Remove wall paneling and ceiling paneling
• Install drywall
• Add trim and crown molding
• Paint walls, ceiling, and trim
• Paint door and update hardware
• Add blinds or curtains
• Add a ceiling light fixture

– The Closet below Front Porch (42% Complete) –

To Do: Complete remodel (we changed our mind after lots of research and decided the best thing was to make this an insulated closet)

• Paint cinder block
• Add insulation 
• Install drywall
• Paint closet
• Add shelving
• Update light fixture
• Add flooring

– The Basement Bathroom (25% Complete) –

To Do: Complete remodel

– The Storage Room (9% Complete) – 

To Do:

• Replace furnace
• Remove work bench
• Add new window
• Paint cinder block
• Insulate room ???
• Paint floor
• Install drywall
• Add trim
• Paint walls, ceiling, and trim
• Add door
• Add a ceiling light fixture

– General Whole House Ideas (40% Complete) –

To Do:

• Replace all windows (only the basement windows are left)
• Redo electrical
• Redo all plumbing (underground is finished)
• Replace all light switch plates and outlets in the house
• Replace roof

What a list… I can not believe all that we have done but we still have a list to do. Sometimes I wonder what we got ourselves into and if we will ever have the money to finish all this… But with time it will all get done. How is your to-do list going?
