With the weather in the 70’s, I decided it was time to paint the exterior doors before it gets to hot. We could not decide on a color so we painted the doors white. I know not the most exciting color but maybe next time. But look at how sad our doors were…
Supplies Needed:
Paint
Primer
Paint Brush
Foam Roller
Sandpaper
I started prepping the doors early in the morning, 7 am. To do this, I removed all the hardware from the door. Then I sanded the door with sandpaper to remove all the imperfections. After sanding, I cleaned the whole door.
Starting with the primer, take the paint brush and paint around the panels. Then move to the foam roller and paint the door panels then the sides around the door panels. TIP: make sure you are adding a light coat of paint and for dark doors apply two coats. Here is my door after one coat of primer.
After letting the door sit for 1 hour, I applied the paint the same way as the primer. Another hour later, I applied a second coat of paint to the door (you could need more then 2 coats). Then I let it dry for the rest of the day before adding the hardware and locking up for the night. Now my door looks like this.
Now I just have to finish painting the interior of the doors. And then one day we will get a new screen door for the front door and I can paint the door casting because now it looks like this, two different colors.
The back door looks amazing, here is the door before:
And here is after removing the old screen door, painting the trim, adding a new porch light, and of course painting the door.
I am so happy to have all the scratches and imperfections gone. Does anyone else want to paint their doors? And what color do you dream about?
