All I have to say is that it’s about time that I am finally updating the light pole. Because if you have seen a picture of the front of our house, you will notice this lovely, not really, light pole… And it has been driving me crazy for a long time.
Let’s take a closer look because the old paint was chipping like crazy.
Because of all the chipped paint I am going to show you how to spray paint a light pole, this would also work for a metal railing…
Wire Brush (that attaches to drill)
Spray Paint in Black
Spray Paint Primer
I removed the glass and old light bulb before starting on the first step. And of-course I had to do a little cleaning, there was an old broken light bulb in there.
The first step to giving this light pole a makeover was removing all the old paint that was chipping. And let me tell you this took awhile. To do this you will need a drill with wire brush. Looks like this:
The reason it took so long was because my batteries only lasted for about an hour before needing to be charged again.
After removing all the old paint, I cleaned the pole and prepped for paint.
Now I was all ready for the spray paint. I first started with the primer and spray the light pole according to the instructions on the can.
I used boxes to paint the pole, this way the spray paint would not spray everything else.
I applied 2 coats of primer.
After the primer dried I could then apply the paint. I applied 3 coats of paint in light coats to give it a better finish. And here is my not so new light pole.
And of-course the view of the house looks a little bit better too.
The cost of this project was very minimal, the only cost was spray paint (1 primer & 2 paint) & the wire brush, which cost less than $24 total.
What do you think of my little makeover? Anyone else thinking about updating a light pole or metal railing?
